If you are considering adopting a parrot, you are in the right place. Read on to learn about our adoption process and how you can make a difference in the life of a feathered friend. Before applying We NEVER place birds with SMOKERS,BREEDERS! We do NOT SHIP BIRDS.WE ALWAYS DO HOME VISITS TO MAKE SURE ALL PARROTS ARE SAFE FROM ANY HAZARDS.

How to Adopt a Bird

Thank you for considering adoption through Land of Illinois Parrot Rescue! Please follow the steps below to ensure a smooth adoption process.

Step 1: Read Our Website

Before applying, please read through our website thoroughly. It contains important information about our adoption policies, requirements, and the lifelong commitment of parrot ownership.

Step 2: Complete the Adoption Paperwork

Download and complete the following:

• Adoption Application

• Adoption Rules & Agreement

Please make sure all sections are completed and signed.

Step 3: Email Your Application

Email your completed application and signed rules to us for review.

Once we receive your paperwork, we will review your application. If we need any additional information, we will contact you.

Step 4: Application Review

Approved applicants may be contacted to discuss the bird they are interested in, answer any questions, and schedule the next steps, including a home check.

🦜 Out-of-State Adoptions

We are happy to adopt to approved homes outside of Illinois! However, out-of-state adoptions cannot be completed the same day.

Federal and state regulations require birds crossing state lines to have a Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI/Health Certificate) completed by our licensed veterinarian before they can legally leave Illinois.

Here’s how the process works:

✅ Complete and submit an adoption application.

✅ Once approved and you have chosen a bird, a $150 non-refundable out-of-state veterinary fee is due before we schedule the appointment. This fee covers:

• Veterinary examination

• Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (Health Certificate)

• Travel expenses to and from our veterinarian

✅ Our veterinarian will examine the bird and complete all required paperwork for interstate travel.

✅ Once the health certificate has been completed and everything is finalized, we will contact you to schedule your pickup.

🚗 Please plan on making two trips to our rescue:

• Trip 1: Finalize the adoption and begin the veterinary paperwork.

• Trip 2: Return to pick up your bird after the health certificate has been completed.

The $150 veterinary fee is separate from the bird’s adoption fee.

We understand this requires an extra trip, but these regulations are required to legally and safely transport birds across state lines.
